Six more COVID-19 positive cases found in Khulna division

KHULNA, April 29, 2020 (BSS) -Six more persons were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) after testing 148 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna and Jashore in the last 24 hours till noon today, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 118 in the division.

“We received 66 samples of suspected coronavirus patients in the last 24 hours till today noon and three of those tested positive in regional Molecular Laboratory at KMC,” said Vice-Principal of Khulna Medical College (KMC) Dr Mehedi Newaz.

The newly detected three COVID-19 infected patients are a nurse of KMCH and two staff of Rupsha Upazila health complex (cleaner and night guard). With them, the total number confirmed cases rose to 12 in Khulna, Dr. Newaz added.

Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther said the total number of infected patients rose to 118 with the detection of six more COVID-19 positive patients after their samples were tested at the two regional COVID-19 Laboratories in last 24 hours till today 12 noon.

“Two COVID-19 Laboratories are now being operated at Khulna Medical College (KMC) and ‘Genome Center’ of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) for testing collected samples of suspected COVID-19 patients in the division,” she said.

The newly detected six COVID-19 patients include three in Khulna and three in Kustia in the division.

Among the total infected 118 patients, 12 are in Khulna, one in Bagerhat, 44 in Jashore, 21 in Jhenaidah, four in Magura, 13 in Narail, 14 in Kustia, seven in Chuadanga and two in Meherpur.

Of them, two patients died so far, one each in Khulna and Meherpur districts while 10 patients are undergoing treatment at the isolation ward, four were released after recovery and the rest of the patients are taking treatment at their respective homes.
