507 more people released from quarantine in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, April 29, 2020 (BSS) – 507 more people were given clearance certificates after expiry of their 14-day quarantine period in all eight districts under Rajshahi division in the last 24 hours till 8am today.

With this, the number of total released people stood to 13,176 and another 8,647 people are still in home and institutional quarantine in the division at present.

Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said a total of 21,819 have, so far, been put under home quarantine since March 10 last to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, a total of 62 new persons were sent to home quarantine as part of the present hectic efforts of bringing all the suspected people under quarantine.

Among the new ones, five have been home-quarantined in Rajshahi, 215 in Chapainawagonj, 46 in Naogaon, 10 in Natore, 109 in Joypurhat, 96 in Bogura, 54 in Sirajganj and 47 in Pabna districts.

Dr Gopen Acharya said a total of 96 confirmed patients for COVID-19 are undergoing treatment in corona units while 176 others in isolation units of different hospitals and another 106 were released.

He added that utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine as it is being adjudged as an important means of containing the community transmission of the virus.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,729 samples have, so far, been tested in the newly installed regional laboratory installed in the Department of Virology in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) to detect novel coronavirus here till yesterday since the testing started on April 1.

Prof Dr Sabera Gulnahar, head of the virology department and in-charge of the laboratory, said a total of 25 positive cases have, so far, been detected from the total testing.

Among the total infected cases, 13 were in Rajshahi, five in Bogura and Joypurhat each, three in Chapainawabganj and Naogaon each, two in Pabna and one in Sirajgonj, she added.
