13 coronavirus patients recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 29, 2020 (BSS) – Thirteen coronavirus (COVID-19) patients have been recovered and two died so far in Rangpur division where the number of coronavirus infected patients continues rising due to limited community transmission.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of coronavirus infected patients rose to 111 in all eight districts of the division till Tuesday night.

“Besides, five more previously infected patients, who have been undergoing treatments at home or isolation units in different hospitals in the division, were tested for COVID-19 positive again during the past two days,” he said.

Meanwhile, 13 coronavirus patients, including three each of Rangpur, Gaibandha and Thakurgaon and four of Nilphamari districts have already been recovered and the number of recovery will continue increasing in the coming days in Rangpur division.

The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients will rise in the future as an infected patient requires a minimum of 14 days and after that period, the patient has to be tested twice after every week and will be released if found to have coronavirus negative consecutively.

“One COVID-19 infected patient each in Gaibandha and Nilphamari expired so far,” he said, adding that the health administration has put maximum efforts to ensure treatments to the coronavirus patients in Rangpur division.

The district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients is: 28 in Rangpur, eight in Panchagarh, 13 in Nilphamari, three in Lalmonirhat, 10 in Kurigram, 15 each in Thakurgaon and Dinajpur and 19 Gaibandha districts of the division.

“Currently, 55 COVID-19 infected patients are undergoing treatments at the isolation units of different hospitals and 41 others at their respective home in self isolation, 13 recovered and two died in Rangpur division,’ Dr. Siddiqui added.

As on Wednesday, the total number of quarantined people rose to 23,781 as 312 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Currently, a total of 10,359 people are remaining in home or institutional quarantine with release of 13,422 others from quarantine so far in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

A total of 642 suspected COVID-19 patients were put on institutional quarantine in different hospitals so far and of them, 428 were released in the division.

“Besides, 123 suspected coronavirus patients were admitted to the isolation units of different hospitals since the beginning, and of them, 28 released and 95 are undergoing treatments,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) with 10 beds in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the 100-bed Rangpur Shishu Hospital continues providing treatments to COVID-19 infected patients.

“The DCIH has 10-bed in its ICU with 10 ventilators, two residential quarters for physicians and one quarter for nurses,” he said.

Currently, three more beds are available at the ICU with three ventilators at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur for providing treatments and support to the COVID-19 patients in critical conditions.

“The health administration with assistance of the local administrations has taken frantic measures to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients and fight against community transmission of the virus in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan added.
