Traders fined Tk 42,000 for cheating consumers in Rangpur
RANGPUR, April 28, 2020 (BSS) – Six traders were fined Taka 42,000 for not hanging price lists and cheating consumers by selling rice at higher price and adulterated spices at different places in Pirgachha upazila and Rangpur city of the district today.
A joint team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 and Department of National Consumer Rights Protection in separate drives fined the traders and destroyed a huge quantity of sub-standard spices, said a press release.
The team found that the owners of ‘Janata Rice House’, ‘Samad Rice Arat’, ‘Rina Rice House’ and ‘Momiul Traders’ at Pirgachha bazar in Pirgachha upazila did not hang price lists and were selling rice at higher prices.
The team fined owner of ‘Janata Rice House’ Taka 4,000, owner of ‘Samad Rice Arat’ Taka 2,000, owner of ‘Rina Rice House’ Taka 4,000 and owner of ‘Momiul Traders’ Taka 2,000 under section 38 of the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009.
In another drive, the team found owners of ‘Alam Pulse Mills’ and ‘Alam Spices Mills’ at GL Roy Road in Rangpur city were illegally producing fake and adulterated foodstuffs and cheating consumers by marketing those through advertisements.
The team fined owner of ‘Alam Pulse Mills’ Taka 20,000 and owner of ‘Alam Spices Mills’ Taka 10,000 under the section 43 and 44 of the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009 and destroyed huge quantities of their produced fake spices.
Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Md. Jahangir Alam and its Assistant Director Md. Borhan Uddin with officials of the elite force conducted the drives, the release added.
