12,854 released from quarantine in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 28, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 12,854 people were released from
quarantine and seven coronavirus (COVID-19) patients recovered so far in
Rangpur division where the number of new cases reported each day.

Health officials said a total of 23,458 people were put on quarantine since
March 10 last in all eight districts of Rangpur division where 107 people were
already detected coronavirus (COVID-19) positive till Monday.

“The highest number of 23 new COVID-19 positive cases was detected on
Monday alone in the division following limited community transmission at
places,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The local administrations with assistance of the Armed Forces and law
enforcement agencies have intensified efforts in inspiring people to stay at
home and ensure physical distancing to prevent community transmission of
COVID-19 infection.

Meanwhile, a total of 397 people were put on quarantine at home or
institutions and 777 others were released during the last 24 hours till 8 am
today in all eight districts of the division.

Since the beginning, 621 people were put on institutional quarantine and
383 of them were released and 116 suspected COVID-19 patients put on isolation
and 21 of them released in the division.

The total number of COVID-19 positive patents rose to 107 in Rangpur
division with detection of 23 more infected patients after testing their
samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur and Dinajpur on Monday.

“Among the 107 detected COVID-19 patients of Rangpur division, 56 are
undergoing treatments at different hospitals and 43 at home isolations, seven
others recovered and one died in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said collected samples of
suspected COVID-19 patients are being tested at two COVID-19 Laboratories
installed at Rangpur Medical College in Rangpur and M Abdur Rahim Medical
College in Dinajpur.

“The Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies have further enhanced
efforts to strictly maintain physical distance for preventing COVID-19 spread
amid its limited community transmission at fewer places,” he said.

At the same time, inclusive steps have been taken to enhance capacity of
providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients under the changing situation
amid increasing number of infected patients in Rangpur division.

“Currently, we have 15 dedicated hospitals for COVID-19 patients with 13
beds in the intensive care units of two government hospitals in Rangpur and
Dinajpur to provide treatments to coronavirus infected patients,” he said.

Besides, 1,260 quarantine beads at 10 Quarantine Centres and 1,292
isolation beds at 15 Isolation Centres are providing treatments to the COVID-
19 patients in the division.

“Besides, preparations have been taken to use different private sector
hospitals having necessary facilities for providing treatments to the
coronavirus infected patients in Rangpur division, if needed,” Dr. Khan added.
