Govt takes steps to continue food production: Razzak

DHAKA, April 27, 2020 (BSS)- Agriculture Minister DrMdAbdurRazzak today
said the government has taken various steps to keep up the current trend of
food production and to produce, collect and preserve quality seeds in future.

“The government is taking different steps to keep up marketing and supply
of agro products and to ensure fair prices of farmers’ produces during the
current Coronavirus situation,” he said, addressing an online meeting with
concerned officials of his ministry at its meeting room at Secretariat in the
capital.

The minister informed that his ministry is working relentlessly to combat
long term impact of Coronavirus epidemic and said the government has taken
steps for transportation of vegetables and perishable agro-products.

Besides, Razzak said, potato, vegetable and onion were included in the
relief materials given by the Disaster Management Ministry.

The minister said the Department of Agriculture Marketing (DAM) has
started conducting mobile marketing of agricultural products with the help of
deputy commissioners (DCs) concerned. The DAM has sent letters to DCs
concerned to take steps to help ply trucks to send surplus foods of lockdown
areas to other areas, he added.

He said seeds of Aush, vegetables and jute have been distributed to the
farmers and they (farmers) are taking preparations for cultivating crops.
Besides, the BADC has collected 34,500 metric tons of potato seeds while
private companies have collected 85,000 metric tons of potato seeds, he said.

Secretary of the ministry MdNasiruzzaman, additional secretary
(administration) MdArifur Rahman Apu, additional secretary (research)
Komolaranjan Das and additional secretary (fertilizer management) MdMahbubul
Islam, among others, took part in the online meeting.
