Mobile post office service introduced to aid people

DHAKA, April 27, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) today introduced mobile post office service to deliver parcel at people’s doorsteps in this COVID-19 gripped country.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar opened the BPO’s new mobile post office service with a fleet of 9 vehicles initially through video conference, said a ministry press release today.

Of the nine vehicles, seven have been assigned for Dhaka Metropolitan areas while another two for Rajshahi and Khulna metropolitan areas.

The mobile post office services would be expanded across the country gradually.

Different services such as post office saving bank, saving certificates, letters, essential documents, parcels, medicines and corona related medical equipment etc would be made available at people’s doorsteps under the initiative.

Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Nur-Ur-Rahman was also connected virtually while additional secretary Azizul Islam and BPO Director General S S Bhadra were present on GPO premises.

Government declared general holidays across the country from March 25 which has been extended to May 5 in five phases to stop spread of Coronavirus.

BPO from March 28 so far has provided services to 750,000 customers while conducted Taka 1,200 crore transactions during this countrywide holidays.
