2 held with huge ganja, phensidyl in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 27, 2020 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) seized 45.50-kg of smuggled ganja and 176 bottles of phensidyl with a truck and arrested two presumed drug traders from Haldibari area of Kawnia upazila in the district this morning.

“An operational team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) of RAB-13 searched a limestone-laden truck in the area on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway and arrested the drug traders with the smuggled drugs,” said a press release.

The elite force seized the truck, ganja packed in sacs and specially put under the loaded limestone aboard the truck, two mobile phone sets, three SIM cards and Taka 4,500 in cash earned from selling drugs from the possessions of the arrested persons.

The arrested drug traders are: driver of the seized truck Shamim Islam, 22, of village Guratipara in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat and helper Moshiar Rahman, 20, of village Baishpukur in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari districts.

During interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they loaded the smuggled ganja and phensidyl aboard their limestone-laden truck at Fedason Bazar in Hatibandha upazila on their way to Dhaka from Burimari Land Port in Lalmonirhat district.

“They also admitted their involvement with trafficking of smuggled drugs and narcotics substances using trucks while carrying other goods and had been trading those in other areas of the country for a long time,” the release added.

After filing a case in this connection, the elite force handed over the arrested drug traders and seized goods to Kawnia police station of Rangpur today.
