20 corona patients detected in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 25, 2020 (BSS) – The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients rose to 20 in Rangpur district out of 79 infected patients so far in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said four more people, including two of Rangpur city and one each of Tentulia upazila in Panchagarh and Dinajpur Sadar, tested positive at the COVID-19 Laboratory of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) today.

“After testing 94 samples of suspected COVID-19 patients, we found four of them positive today,” Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Laizu told BSS.

Among the four new patients, one male hails from Nurpur area and another female from Dakshin Thikadarpara area in Rangpur metropolis while one male patient each hails from Tentulia upazila in Panchagarh and Sadar upazila in Dinajpur district.

“Among the 20 COVID-19 infected patients of Rangpur district, seven of them hail from seven different areas across the metropolis,” Dr. Laizu said.

The seven infected patents of Rangpur metropolis include one each of Ganeshpur, Jummapara, Kamal Kachhna, Kotkipara, Adarshapara, Nurpur and Dakshin Thikadarpara areas.

With the detection of four new patients today, the total number of COVID-19 positive patients rose to 79 showing a rising trend in community transmission of the virus in Rangpur division.

The district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients is: 20 in Rangpur, 10 in Nilphamari, 14 in Dinajpur, 16 in Gaibandha, seven in Thakurgaon, two in Lalmonirhat, four in Panchagarh and six in Kurigram districts of the division.
