14 more tested COVID-19 positive in Khulna division

KHULNA, April 25, 2020 (BSS) – Fourteen more suspected patients were
diagnosed as coronavirus (COVID-19) positive after their samples were tested
at the COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna and Jashore in the last 24 hours till
2pm today, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 51 in the division.

“We found 14 more people COVID-19 positive out of 155 samples tested in two
regional Molecular Laboratories in the division till 2pm today,” Assistant
Director (Health) in Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther told BSS.

The newly detected 14 COVID-19 patients include nine in Jashore, two in
Magura, two in Kustia and one in Narail after testing 95 samples at ‘Genome
Center’ of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) in last 24
hour till today 2pm.

Of the 51 patients, 15 are in Jashore, eight in Khulna, seven in
Chuadanga, seven in Narail, seven in Kustia, four in Magura, two in Meherpur
and one in Bagerhat districts, Dr. Ferdousi said.

“A total of 1,464 collected samples of COVID-19 suspects have so far been
tested in two laboratories in the division since April 7,” said Assistant
Professor and Focal Point of COVID-19 Molecular Laboratory of KMC Dr Tushar
Alam.

Meanwhile, a 16-month baby died with coronavirus-like symptoms today at
Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

The baby Fatema, residence of Kachua upazila in Bagerhat, was admitted to
corona isolation ward with diarrhea and other coronavirus-like symptoms on
Friday, said physician Shailendranath Biswas of KMCH.

Biswas, also focal person of corona isolation ward, said the baby died
around 10.30am during treatment, adding her sample was collected for test.

Besides, family members of the dead have been requested to stay in
quarantine, he said.
