Army provides food to 1,000 distressed families in Lalmonirhat

LALMONIRHAT, April 24, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Army distributed food among 1,000 jobless, distressed and low-income families of cluster villages, slums and other places in the district from its own resources as humanitarian support on Thursday.

Led by Lt. Colonel Hafizur Rahman, Bangladesh Army personnel reached the foodstuffs, including Iftar items, at the doorsteps of the needy families of all five upazilas in the district amid coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

Under the food assistance programme, each of the beneficiary families received a sac containing rice, pulse, flour, edible oil, iodized salt, biscuits and semolina.

Members of Bangladesh Army distributed the food items in a well-organized manner strictly maintaining physical distancing and health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 infection.

On the occasion, officials of Bangladesh Army briefly informed the common people about the nature and severity of COVID-19 and called for maintaining physical distance and staying at home to prevent spread of the deadly virus.
After getting the food assistance, a number of distressed family members of Dhabalsuti Cluster Village in Patgram upazila thanked the Bangladesh Army for standing beside them during the special situation.

They also expressed deep gratitude to Bangladesh Army for working relentlessly round the clock across the country taking high risks in tackling the outbreak of coronavirus to save the people from the COVID-19 pandemic.
