Programmes in Sherpur to tackle COVID-19 crisis

SHERPUR, April 23, 2020 (BSS) – Various programmes including social
safety, VGD, food-friendly programmes and sale of goods at fair prices
through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) have been intensified
alongside the government and non-government relief assistance in the
district, said Sherpur deputy commissioner Anar Kali Mahbub today.

The district has received 900 metric tonnes of rice, Taka 48 lakh in cash
and Tk 10 lakh in cash for baby food from relief ministry so far to help
people during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, he told BSS correspondent.

Of the allocation, 750 metric tonnes of rice, Tk 40 lakh in cash and Tk 7
lakh for baby food have been distributed in 5 upazilas of the district, the
deputy commissioner added.

He said 68 beds have been provided at the youth training center for corona
doctors and health workers as part of assistance.

The district administration has provided 10 new beds to the Zila Sadar
Hospital for the treatment of corona patients, he informed.

For better food-friendly programme, vegetables are being added with
regular food items to help people in the ongoing crisis , he said, adding
that even inclusion of egg on the food assistance programme is also
considering.

Deputy commissioner today also distributed food and safety items among
transgender people in his office area.
