Kurigram placed on lockdown to halt coronavirus spread

KURIGRAM, April 23, 2020 (BSS) – The district administration today imposed
a lockdown on the district to prevent the spread of coronavirus as almost the
entire country have been affected by the deadly virus.

The lockdown came into effect from 5 pm today for an indefinite period
until further notice is issued in this connection.

“As per the decision of the Coronavirus Control and Prevention Affairs
District Committee in Kurigram, the district has been put on lockdown,” said
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rezaul Karim this afternoon.

The DC, also the District Magistrate and President of the Coronavirus
Control and Prevention Affairs District Committee, imposed the lockdown under
sections 11(1), 11(2) and 11(3) of the Contagious Disease (Prevention,
Control and Elimination) Act, 2018.

Rezaul said entrance of the people from anywhere and in any way into
Kurigram district and any departure from the district has been declared
completely forbidden after enforcement of the lockdown until further notice.

It also said that movement of public transports will remain suspended and
public meetings have been banned in the district.

However, all the essential goods and freight vehicles, including emergency
services like vehicles carrying patients, medicines, essential goods,
agricultural commodities, newspapers and media workers will remain exempted
from this ban.

Movement of the people involved with essential services like electricity,
cleaning activities, gas, telephone, water supply and internet would remain
out of the purview of the lockdown.

Legal actions will be taken, if anyone violates or disobeys this order for
lockdown, the district administration sources said.
