UP member held with 2,790kg rice in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 23, 2020 (BSS) – Police today arrested a union parishad member with 2,790 kg of rice allocated by the government for infrastructural uplifts under the Work for Food (KABITA) programme from Kawnia upazila in the district.

“We arrested Ashraful Alam, member of ward no-7 of Balapara union, from a godown with the grabbed rice at Rajendra Bazar of the union in Kawnia upazila at 5:30 pm,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kawnia Thana Md. Azizul Islam told BSS.

The huge quantity of seized rice packed in 93 sacks with 30 kg in each, was allocated by the government for conducting infrastructural development works involving jobless, poor and distressed people in rural areas of the union.

A case was filed in this connection.
