KAMAL-AIIB PRESIDENT-2 LAST DHAKA
Kamal apprised the AIIB president about the steps undertaken by Bangladesh
to prevent and control COVID-19.
He mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced stimulus
packages of Taka 95,619 crore, which is 3.3 percent of GDP, to offset the
adverse impact of the coronavirus on various sectors.
The AIIB president lauded the Prime Minister for announcing such huge
amount of stimulus packages in the wake of COVID-19 as well as various steps
of the government to face this crisis.
The AIIB president said the global economy is undoubtedly going to fall
into risks and the situation is changing every now and then. “If the whole of
the world doesn’t think of the economy alongside tackling this pandemic, then
the economy won’t come to normalcy even in 2021,” he observed.
Jin also informed that the member countries have assured him of working
together while facing this pandemic.
He requested the finance minister to speedily complete the ongoing AIIB
supported projects in Bangladesh.
Currently there are some 7 projects with an overall AIIB support of $1.18
billion of which 3 projects were approved in 2020.
