Quader asks AL men to reach relief to jobless people’s doorsteps

DHAKA, April 23, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today urged the party leaders and activists to identify those became jobless amid COVID-19 outbreak and reach relief goods at their doorsteps.

“No word can express the situation of those who lost work. After finding out them, relief goods must be reached to their homes,” he told a relief distribution programme at the AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital, joining it through a videoconference from his official residence.

AL relief sub-committee arranged the relief distribution programme.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said as per the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the AL men are distributing relief goods among the poor, destitute and jobless people across the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Awami League always stands by the people…many poor and lower-middle income people are now perplexed losing their work and they are living miserably,” he added.

“We have to walk through a more uneven path in the coming days due to coronavirus pandemic,” he said, adding that the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the ongoing crisis would linger more.

“That means we have to face a long crisis. We have to walk on a long uneven path…but we will win the fear under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina,” Quader said.

He said the government is now fighting for two things – the prevention of coronavirus and the protection of the poor and destitute people from the lethal virus – under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

For tackle crisis, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is familiar around the world as a courageous leader, the AL general secretary said, adding: “We have a courageous and tested leader (like Sheikh Hasina) and people have trust in her…so, we will win the war against coronavirus under her leadership.”

He thanked the leaders of Krisak League, Swechchhasebak League and Chhatra League for taking part in the paddy harvesting programme.

AL presidium member Matia Chowdhury, its relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, deputy office secretary Sayeem Khan and Swechchhasebak League president Nirmal Ranjan Guha were, among others, present at the relief distribution programme.
