Two held with 25-kg ganja in Rangpur
RANGPUR, April 23, 2020 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two presumed drug traders with 25-kg ganja and seized a truck from Mahiganj Satmatha point on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway in the city last night.
“On a tip off, an operational team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) of RAB-13 searched a bamboo-carrying truck at Mahiganj Satmatha point on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway and arrested two person with ganja packed in seven sacks from beneath of bamboo,” said a press release issued here today.
The elite force also seized the truck with three mobile phone sets, five SIM cards, two memory cards and Taka 1,200 in cash from their possessions.
The arrested drug traders are: driver of the seized truck Shahidul Islam, 32, of village Hilalipara and his helper Rana Babu, 34, of village Nasirabad in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district.
During the interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they were carrying the ganja from the frontier areas of Lalmonirhat and Kurigram district to other parts of the country.
“They also confessed their involvement with trafficking of smuggled drugs using trucks while carrying other goods for a long time,” the release added.
After filing a case in this connection, the elite force handed over the arrested drug traders and seized goods to Mahiganj Thana police of Rangpur Metropolitan Police today.
