Three more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 22, 2020 (BSS) – Three more people were tested Covid-19
positive today at the testing laboratory of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) in
the city.

Health officials said a total of 94 samples of suspected cases have been
collected and tested at the COVID -19 laboratory here. Of them, three were
tested positive.

The three new infected patients include – a resident of Shalbon Mistripara
area in Rangpur city, an inhabitant of Roumari upazila in Kurigram and
another person hailing from Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha district.

The COVID-19 infected persons of Roumari upazila in Kurigram and
Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha recently returned from Gazipur and Dhaka
districts respectively.

“However, history of the infected patient of Shalbon Mistripara area in
Rangpur city could not be known yet,” Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus
Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM
Nurunnabi Laizu told BSS.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 positive patients rose to 62 in
Rangpur division today, Dr Laizu said.

Earlier, a Medical Officer of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur
and another physician of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex in Nilphamari
were tested COVID-19 positive.

The district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients now stands at 10 each
in Rangpur and Nilphamari, 13 in Dinajpur, 14 in Gaibandha, seven in
Thakurgaon, two each in Lalmonirhat and Panchagarh and four in Kurigram
district.

“Most of the detected COVID-19 patients of Rangpur division recently
returned from Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur and a few of them got infected
after coming in contact with other infected patients,” Dr. Laizu added.
