6,862 still in quarantine in Khulna division
KHULNA, April 22, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 6,862 people are still in home or
institutional quarantine after the release of 15,772, out of the total 22,634
isolated in the division since coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak began in the
country.
“A total of 6,862 people are still in quarantine as there are possibilities
of community transmission of COVID-19 in the country, comprehensive steps
have been taken to prevent further spread of the infection in the division,”
said Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter.
After Khulna reported first death from COVID-19 on Tuesday in the division
, 533 more people were put in home or institutional quarantine in the last 24
hours as of 8 am today to prevent the virus’s community transmission, she
said.
Among 533 quarantined persons, 531 people were put in home quarantine while
two others in institutional quarantine, she said, adding: “Of them, six are
in quarantine in Khulna, 34 in Bagerhat, 24 in Jashore, 17 in Jhenaidah, 67
in Magura, 37 in Narail, 238 in Kustia, 82 in Chuadanga and 28 in Meherpur”.
A total of 570 people were also released from home or institutional
quarantine as they showed no symptoms of coronavirus in the last 24 hours,
she informed.
“Till today 12noon , a total of 22 people have been diagnosed positive for
COVID-19 in the division. Of them, five are in Khulna, five in Jashore, six
in Narail, two in Kustia, one each in Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Magura and
Meherpur districts”, she said.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said more steps are being
taken in the wake of the changing situation for enhancing capacity of
providing treatment to the COVID-19 patients.
Meanwhile, a ‘Corona prevention and treatment management committee ‘ has
been formed in Khulna comprising 35 doctors of KMCH. The body is headed by
Professor Dr Md. Amir Hossain of KMC while Assistant Professor of KMC Md.
Khasrul Alam is the member secretary, an official said today.
