13 fresh COVID-19 cases detected in Khulna division

KHULNA, April 22, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 13 fresh COVID- 19 cases detected in the last 24 hours as of 12 noon today in the division, taking the number of cases to 22, an official said.

“13 persons were found infected with coronavirus afresh in the last 24 hours as of 12 noon today in the division, of whom, five are in Jashore, six in Narail, two in Kustia and

one in Meherpur districts,” said Director(Health) in Khulna division Dr Rasheda Sultana.

So, the number of COVID-19 infected patients’ in the division stood at 22, she said, adding that “Of them, five are in Khulna, five in Jashore, six in Narail, two in Kustia

as well as one each in Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Magura and Meherpur districts”.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old Covid-19 infected patient died in Khulna on Tuesday morning, said Principal of Khulna Medical College (KMC) Professor Abdul Ahad said.

He said a total of 191 samples, including the person who died in the morning with coronavirus symptoms, were tested at the COVID-19 regional Molecular Laboratory at KMC during

the last 24 hours when it is found that the deceased person was infected with COVID-19.

He also said “This is the first death case from coronavirus in the district and the deceased was hailed from Rajapur village in Rupsha upazila of Khulna district”.

After his death, around 40 families in the vicinity were kept under lockdown by local administration, sources said.

Simultaneously, samples of 10 persons, who came in contact with the dead man, has been decided to be collected for testing.

“A total of 1,078 collected samples of COVID-19 suspects have so far been tested in the division since April 7,” said Assistant Professor and Focal Point of COVID-19 Molecular Laboratory of KMC Dr Tushar Alam.

“We are smoothly testing samples of suspected COVID-19 infected patients with assistance of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) at the COVID-19 Laboratory installed at the Department of Microbiology of KMC,” he said.
