12 Bangladeshi teams to join Hong Kong Blockchain Olympiad

DHAKA, 21 April 2020 (BSS) – The top 12 teams from Bangladesh will participate in the international Blockchain Olympiad in Hong Kong in July this year.

Disclosing this at a zoom online press conference on Monday, Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh (BCOLBD) convener Professor M Kaykobad said the names of the teams will be announced after April 30 and the awardees will be given cash prizes and sponsorships for participating in the Olympiad.

BCOLBD coordinator Habibullah N Karim, Leveraging ICT for Growth and Employment of IT-ITES Industry (LICT) project director Md Rezaul Karim, Hong Kong Blockchain Society president Dr Lawrence Ma, International Blockchain Olympiad secretary Gabriel Chan and Director of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University (DU) Prof Ferhat Anwar and BASIS president Syed Almas Kabir were present, among others.

Kaykobad said the BCOLBD will organise Blockchain Olympiad each year to create Blockchain professionals which is as of today over 5 lakh worldwide.

Habibullah said blockchain technology is supplementing the banking, identity management, supply chain, manufacturing provenance, public registry sectors and many other transactional businesses with innovative business processes and models and helping usher in a new business paradigm.

According to organizers, 55 jurors comprising top functionaries, leaders from government, academia and industry has been adjudicating the 63 projects submitted by the participants by 14 April, he said.

They will select top 12 winning teams which will be given cash prizes and sponsored for participating in the international Blockchain Olympiad in Hong Kong, he added.

Earlier, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated a two-day (March 20-21) workshop on blockchain technology to develop capacity of the youths to participate in the Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh.

A total of 450 students from 15 universities took part in the two-day webinar on Blockchain technology.

The ICT Division and the LICT Project of the government, the International Blockchain Olympiad in Hong Kong and Technohaven Company Limited, a leading software company of the country, organised the competition.
