Red Crescent sends COVID-19 awareness messages to 9.5 lakh people

DHAKA, April 21, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has so far sent awareness messages to around 9.5 lakh people throughout the country along with various other programmes to prevent and control novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Society is also providing food materials among the poor and helpless people who are affected due to COVID-19 side by side continuing with various awareness campaigns on this deadly virus, said a press release.

The release said the Society has so far distributed awareness leaflets among some 9,47,842 people across the country which is playing an important role to create mass awareness.

Besides, the 68 units of the Society based in 64 districts have also installed some 10,179 basins across the country, including in the capital, to facilitate hand washing by the people.

The society said they have opened up a cell where the interested persons would be able to take medical and psychological services from the expert physicians everyday from Sunday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm through dialing at 01811458541 and 01811458542 numbers.

The officials concerned familiar with the cell informed that people from across the country are taking services from this cell through dialing these numbers.

The Society also measures regularly the temperature of its staffs working at its headquarters since March 28 and no one has so far been found with high temperature.

Meanwhile, as part of its series of operations to fight and control COVID-19, the Society volunteers have distributed awareness leaflets and health safety equipments like soaps, hand sanitizers, masks, PPEs among the people at the divisional level and also at the district level.

Besides, the Society has also set up isolation unit at Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital, motivated people to hand washing and maintaining social distancing, continued spraying disinfectant at hospitals, ministries, offices of the law enforcement agencies, mosques, temples and other places of worships, at various media houses and at public and private offices.

Apart from this, the Society volunteers, as part of its series of operations to make the police stations free from germs, sprayed disinfectant in the capital’s Khilkhet Thana, Cantonment Thana, Kafrul Thana, Vatara Thana, Pallabi Thana, Darus Salam Thana, Uttara Thana, Uttara Purba Thana, Uttarkhan Thana, Dakshinkhan Thana, Airport Thana, Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Disaster Management and Relief, Information, DGHS and Department of Disaster Management.
