RMCH steps up preparations to fight coronavirus pandemic

RAJSHAHI, April 21, 2020 (BSS) – Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH)
has geared up precautionary measures to fight the coronavirus (Covid-19)
pandemic.

It has also taken steps to bring the suspected people under testing as
isolation of the infected patients through testing is being adjudged as an
important means of containing the community transmission of the virus.

This was revealed in the governing council meeting of RMCH at its
conference hall here today with council President Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP,
in the chair.

RMCH Director Brig Gen Jamilur Rahman, Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous
and Members Prof Khalilur Rahman and Sazid Hossain and Divisional Director of
Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya were present at the meeting.

The meeting discussed the challenges of the coronavirus and devised ways
and means to face the challenges collectively.

The meeting was told that a total of 80 cases have been detected so far
after testing samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at the Department of
Virology in RMCH till yesterday since the lab started its operation on April
1.

Among the total infected cases, eight were in Rajshahi, three in
Chapainawabganj, three in Joypurhat, two in Bogura and Pabna each and one in
Naogaon and Sirajgonj each. Subsequently, houses of the infected persons were
kept on lockdown.

On the other hand, a total of 16,259 people have, so far, been put in home
quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of coronavirus.

Of them, 8,440 were released from quarantine after they were found to have
no symptoms of coronavirus completing their 14-day stay at home as a
quarantine period and 7,817 others remain in both home and institutional
quarantine in the division at present.

The meeting was also told that the capacity of the hospital has been
enhanced to a greater extent to cope with the adverse situation.
