4 COVID-19 patients so far recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 21, 2020 (BSS) – Four among a total of 52 coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients have so far been recovered in the division where the overall virus infection situation still remains stable.

Health officials said the health administration with assistance of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), has taken hectic measures to fight against COVID-19 virus in the division.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of infected patients rose to 52 with two more tested positive for the COVID-19 yesterday in Rangpur division.

“Of the total 52 infected patients, four in Gaibandha district, including three of a family, have so far been recovered, 30 are undergoing treatments at different hospitals and 18 at their respective home,” he said.

The detected COVID-19 infected patients include three working physicians of two upazila health complexes in Rangpur and Nilphamari districts.

Among the COVID-19 infected patients, seven are in Rangpur, nine in Nilphamari, 11 in Dinajpur, 13 in Gaibandha, six in Thakurgaon, two in Lalmonirhat, three in Kurigram and one in Panchagarh districts.

As of today, the total number of quarantined people rose to 20,792 as 1,000 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions during the last 24 hours.

“In the last 24 hours, the numbers of newly quarantined people are: 149 in Rangpur, 77 in Panchagarh, 278 in Nilphamari, one in Lalmonirhat, 52 in Kurigram, 26 in Thakurgaon, 266 in Dinajpur and 151 in Gaibandha districts,” Siddiqui said.

Currently, a total of 13,195 people are remaining in home or institutional quarantine with release of 7,597 others from quarantine so far in all eight districts of Rangpur division, he said.

A total of 441 persons on suspicion of being infected with COVID-19 were put under institutional quarantine in different hospitals so far and of them, 100 were released in the division, he added.

“Besides, 62 persons, being suspected coronavirus infected, were admitted to the isolation units of different hospitals in Rangpur division since the deadly virus outbreak, and of them, 13 released and 49 are undergoing treatments,” Siddiqui continued.

Meanwhile, the newly launched Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) at the 100-bed Rangpur Shishu Hospital (RSH) has started providing treatments to COVID-19 infected patients of Rangpur division since Sunday last.

The DGHS has established the DCIH with a ten-bed intensive care unit (ICU) having modern facilities and ventilators as an extended part of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for treatments of critical COVID-19 patients.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said the DCIH has all modern facilities like the 10-bed ICU with ventilators, two residential quarters for physicians and one quarter for nurses.

Currently, three more beds are available at the ICU with three ventilators and other modern facilities at A Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur of the division for providing treatments and support to the COVID-19 patients in critical conditions.

“Besides, we are considering using the ICU beds, facilities and equipment available at different private sector hospitals in the division to provide treatments to COVID-19 patients, if needed, in the future,” Dr. Khan added.
