RAJSHAHI, April 20, 2020 (BSS)- Five more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Rajshahi division, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the division to 18.
After testing samples of 94 persons at the Covid-19 Laboratory at the Department of Virology in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital here this afternoon, five positive cases were detected.
Of the new cases, three were detected in Rajshahi and one each in Joypurhat and Chapainawabganj. Subsequently, houses of the respective infected persons were kept on lockdown.
Following confirmation of Covid-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons at different areas in the division were placed on lockdown.
Prof Dr Sabera Gulnahar, head of the virology department and in-charge of the laboratory, said a total of eighteen cases have been detected so far — after testing samples of 1,009 patients — since the lab started its operation on April 1.
Among the total infected cases, eight were in Rajshahi, three in Chapainawabganj, three in Joypurhat, two in Bogura and Pabna each and one in Naogaon and Sirajgonj each.
