4,000 jobless villagers getting foodstuffs in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, April 20, 2020 (BSS) – Foodstuffs are being distributed among 4,000 jobless and needy people of different remote villages in Domar and Dimla upazilas of Nilphamari district to assist them amid coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

As per the directions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council Sarker Farhana Akhter Sumi is distributing the foodstuffs at her own initiative.

In the first phase, Sumi distributed rice and pulse among 2,000 jobless rural families, including families of distressed freedom fighters and disabled people, in the last four days till today strictly maintaining physical distance.

In the second phase, she will distribute similar foodstuffs soon among 2,000 more jobless, distressed and needy rural families who are currently at home under the lockdown situation in the two upazilas.

Talking to BSS today, Sumi said she is distributing the foodstuffs at the doorsteps of the villagers with the assistance of her father and grassroots’ level leaders and workers of Awami League and its associate bodies.

She called upon the villagers to properly abide by the directions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and health directives of the government and stay at home to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 infection.

Sumi is the daughter of freedom fighter Golam Rabbani of Chilahati in Bhogdaburi union of Domar upazila in Nilphamari district.
