Zaheed for maintaining embankments ahead of monsoon
DHAKA, April 19, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque today asked concerned officials and employees to put much emphasis on maintenance of the ministry’s projects especially the embankments in haor areas as monsoon is approaching.
“Before the monsoon comes, we will have to put emphasis on our projects especially embankments in haor areas. The country sees a bumper Boro production. We have to make all-out efforts so that farmers can bring their crops home before flood hits,” he said.
The state minister said this at a meeting on ‘what to do to control floods in vulnerable areas” during approaching monsoon at the ministry’s conference room.
He underscored the need for encouraging voluntary activities of the local leaders and workers of Awami League to this end.
Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, Water Resources Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar, Additional Secretary (Development) Mahmudul Islam, Joint Secretary (Planning) Montu Kumar Biswas and Bangladesh Water Development Board Director General AM Aminul Haque were present, among others.
Deputy Minister for Water Resources Ministry AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem sought cooperation from local lawmakers to ensure additional wages for workers and bring them under the purview of relief.
