Red Crescent Society seeks help of all to fight COVID-19

DHAKA, April 19, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has urged all, including the affluent section of society, to stand beside it to help the poor people affected by the impact of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The BDRCS in a press release today called upon the benevolent and wealthy people, organizations, media houses and the affluent section to stand beside it so that it could help the poor, destitute people and those who are most affected due to COVID-19.

“Please extend your support to the Red Crescent Society, the society will then support those people who are being affected by the coronavirus. Your donated amount is totally free from income tax. Your support and the humanity alongside the efforts from the Red Crescent volunteers can minimize the sufferings of people. So, don’t wait anymore and respond to the call of the Society in this crisis moment for the cause of humanity,” the release said.

Meanwhile, the BDRCS has continued its countrywide operations like spraying disinfectant and creating awareness among people to prevent and control COVID-19.

The society has already undertaken a programme to provide food support to the poor and destitute people in the country, including the capital. This food support in the form of food parcel will be reached to the most affected and job-less people through 68 units of the Society based in 64 districts.

Besides, the BDRCS has been conducting various operations to prevent and control COVID-19 like distributing awareness leaflets, health safety equipments like soaps, hand sanitizers, masks, PPEs, setting up isolation unit at Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital, motivating people to hand washing and maintaining social distancing, spraying disinfectant at hospitals, ministries, offices of the law enforcement agencies, mosques, temples, and other places of worships, and in other public and private offices.

The Society said continuing with such kind of operations need huge fund and it has now become much more difficult in getting funds from abroad. So, mobilizing domestic fund can play an important role in this regard.
