Female doctor tests positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 19, 2020 (BSS) – A female physician of a government hospital among the three more persons was tested positive for COVID-19 at the COVID-19 Laboratory of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) here today.

She is a Medical Officer of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur,” Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Laizu told BSS this afternoon.

With this, the number of COVID-19 infected physicians working at government hospitals rose to three in Rangpur division.

Earlier, another Medical Officer of the same health complex and another physician of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex in Nilphamari were tested for COVID-19 positive at the laboratory.

“We conducted tests of 188 collected samples of suspected COVID-19 patients of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the laboratory today and found three of them COVID-19 positive,” Dr. Laizu said.

The other two infected patients are one each of Sadar upazila in Dinajpur and Shaghata upazila of Gaibandha districts.

“With detection of three more COVID-19 positive patients today, the total number of infected patients rose to 50 in Rangpur division,” he said.

As on today, the district-wise break up of detected COVID-19 patients stands at six in Rangpur, nine in Nilphamari, 11 in Dinajpur, 13 in Gaibandha, six in Thakurgaon, two each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram and one in Panchagarh districts.

“Most of the detected COVID-19 patients recently returned from Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur districts and some others got infected after coming in contact with them,” Dr. Laizu added.
