Vegetables to be distributed as relief to ensure fair price in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA, April 19, 2020 (BSS) – Vegetables has been decided to be included in relief materials along with rice, dal, and oil to ensure its fair price for farmers in the district during the coronavirus situation.
A decision has been taken in this regard in a meeting of the district bazaar monitoring committee held at the bungalow of the deputy commissioner (DC) of the town on Friday with DC Abdul Matin in the chair.
Deputy Director (DD) of department of agriculture extension (DAE) Krishibid Masudur Rahman addressed the meeting as the focal person and briefed about vegetables and its production in the district elaborately.
Rahman said the farmers produced various types of vegetable including potato, brinjal, balsam apple, parble, tomato and pumpkin on 2300 bighas of land this season.
But, the farmers are facing serious troubles in selling their products due to the shutdown and lock down amid COVID-19 spread, he said.
If such situation continues, the farmers will be affected seriously, he said, adding that they will be loser economically and have to incur huge losses this year.
After elaborate discussion, the committee took the decision to include the vegetable in relief materials so that the growers could get the fair prices of their products.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikot, district market investigator Shah Moazzem Hossain, general secretary (GS) of district Krirshak League Dipak Kumar Paul and GS of Puratan Bazar Business Committee M. Arif Miah also addressed the meeting, among others.
