Medical officer among 3 test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 18, 2020 (BSS) – Three people including a medical officer tested positive for COVID-19 at the COVID-19 Laboratory of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) in the city today.

The COVID-19 positive medical officer of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur might have been infected while providing treatments to common patients as he did not travel to other areas in recent times, health officials assumed.

Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Laizu said a total of 91 samples of suspected COVID-19 patients were tested at the laboratory today.

“After completing tests, three persons, including the medical officer, and one person each of Dinajpur and Thakurgaon district, were diagnosed with COVID-19 raising the total number of infected patients to 47 in Rangpur division,” he said.

The district-wise break up of detected COVID-19 patients now stands at five in Rangpur, nine in Nilphamari, 10 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, six in Thakurgaon, two each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram and one in Panchagarh districts.

“Most of the new COVID-19 patients recently returned from Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur districts,” Dr. Laizu said.

He suggested the common people to stay at home and maintain social distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.
