44 detected COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 18, 2020 (BSS) – The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive patents rose to 44 in Rangpur division with detection of seven more infected patients after testing 185 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory here last night.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the seven new infected patients include three of Nilphamari, two of Thakurgaon and one each of Dinajpur and Panchagarh districts in the division.

“The district-wise break up of detected COVID-19 patients now stands at four in Rangpur, nine each in Nilphamari and Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, five in Thakurgaon and two each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram and one in Panchagarh districts,” he said.

Of the 44 detected COVID-19 patients, 29 are undergoing treatments at different hospitals and 12 at their respective home and three have so far been released after recovery from the deadly contagious disease.

Meanwhile, the number of total quarantined people rose to 18,239 today as 548 more people were quarantined anew at home or institutions during the last 24 hours in the division to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

“In the last 24 hours, the numbers of quarantined people are 16 in Rangpur, 21 in Panchagarh, 83 in Nilphamari, seven in Lalmonirhat, 41 in Kurigram, 70 in Thakurgaon, 122 in Dinajpur and 188 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.

A total of 6,641 people were released from home or institutional quarantine so far with 11,598 are still in remaining quarantine in Rangpur division where COVID-19 positive patients have already been detected in all eight districts.

Besides, 51 suspected coronavirus patients were admitted to the isolation units of different hospitals in Rangpur division since the beginning, and of them, 12 released so far and 39 are undergoing treatments.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies have put maximum efforts on inspiring people to stay at home and maintain physical distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) is extending assistance to smoothly conduct testing of collected samples of suspected patients at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Zakir Hossain said the administrations have announced lockdown putting restrictions on movements of people from one district to another to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in Rangpur division.

“Distribution of food allocated by the government among the jobless, needy, distressed and backward people continues maintaining physical distance to stand beside them amid the coronavirus COVID-19 spread in the division.
