Factories to reopen only after corona situation improvement: BGMEA
DHAKA, April 17, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will reopen factories of their members only after the overall improvement of coronavirus situation in the country.
“At this moment, our first and only priority is to ensure health safety of our labourers,” said BGMEA in a statement today against the backdrop of rumours in social media regarding factory reopening.
It said misleading information is being spread out in social media platforms on reopening of the garments factories.
BGMEA said it stands firm on this issue.”We have to keep us safe and healthy before reopening our factories,” it added.
On Thursday, entire Bangladesh was declared risky for coronavirus pandemic as the number of COVID-19 positive cases across the country has increased sharply in the last few days.
Bangladesh today reported 15 more deaths from the novel coronavirus, the highest so far in a single day, and 266 fresh positive cases overnight.
“Fifteen more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 75,” Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque told a virtual media briefing at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the city by joining it online.
