5,651 still in quarantine in Khulna division

KHULNA, April 17, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 5,651 people are now in quarantine after release of 13,524 out of totally isolated 19,175 persons in the division since coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak began in the country.

“A total of 5,651 people are still in quarantine as there are symptoms of community transmission of COVID-19 in the country, comprehensive steps have been taken to prevent further spread of the infection in the division,” said Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther.

After 5 people were found infected with COVID-19 till April 14 in the division, 829 more people were put under home or institutional quarantine during the last 24 hours as of 8 am today to prevent the virus’s community transmission, she said.

Among 829 quarantined persons, 746 people were put in home quarantine while 83 others in institutional quarantine, she said, adding that “Of them, four are in quarantine in Khulna, 99 in Bagerhat, four in Satkhira, 157 in Jashore, 277 in Jhenaidah, 139 in Magura, 73 in Narail, 38 in Chuadanga and 37 in Meherpur”.

A total of 428 people were also released from home or institutional quarantine having no symptoms of coronavirus during last 24 hours, she continued.

“Till Tuesday last, a total of 5 people – one in Khulna, one in Jashore, one in Narail, one in Bagerhat and one in Chuadanga districts – have been tested COVID-19 positive in the division,” she went on saying.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said more steps are being taken in wake of changing situation for enhancing capacity of providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients.
