Govt distributes 1,329 tonnes rice, Tk 51 lakh in Mymensingh.

MYMENSINGH, April 17, 2020 (BSS) – The distribution of rice and other essential food items among the poor is going on in the district amid the coronavirus crisis.

The government has distributed around 1,329 metric tonnes of rice and Taka 51 lakh among 1.13 lakh poor and unemployed people of 13 upazilas of the district till today under the human assistance programme.

District Relief Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Abul Kalam Azad told BSS that so far the government allocated around 1,540 metric tonnes of rice under the programme in the district.

He also said the government has distributed essential items like potato, edible oil, salt, pulses and soaps, in addition to rice.

Beside, eight patients were diagnosed with COVID-19 through tests at MMC lab yesterday, said civil surgeon Dr A B M Shamiul Alam. One of the patients named Adul Kader of Phulpur upazila died yesterday, he added.

A total of 188 samples were tested yesterday in Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) lab.
