1,182 more people sent to quarantine in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, April 17, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 1,182 new more people were sent to home and institutional quarantine as part of the present efforts of bringing all the suspected people under quarantine in all eight districts under Rajshahi division over the Last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya, Divisional Director of Health, here today said the figure brings the number of total quarantined people to 5,510 at present.

A total of 13,024 people had, so far, been sent to quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). Of them, 7,514 have, so far, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.

Among the new ones, 97 have been kept at home quarantine in Rajshahi, 162 in Chapainawabganj, 192 in Naogaon, 16 Natore, 62 in Joypurhat, 455 in Bogura, 105 in Sirajgonj and 93 in Pabna districts.

Dr Gopendra Nath said a total of 57 patients are undergoing treatment in isolation units at present and 28 others were released.

He added that a collective effort has been continuing to bring all suspected people including the overseas returnees and other possible coronavirus infected under home quarantine over the last couple of weeks to curb the virus spread.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has become ready to tackle any adverse and emergency situation caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the region.

The RMCH’s 30 Number Ward has been prepared for treatment of around 200 infected patients simultaneously. There are some additional advantages like 16 ICU and eight HDU beds in the ward which will be very much helpful to cope with any emergency situation.

RMCH Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous said adequate equipment and devices reached here for the doctors and paramedics to stay safe from the virus infection.

There is a supply of adequate personal protective equipment (PPE), goggles, masks, caps and gloves at present. The doctors and nurses in every ward were provided with security wares and gears.

He said the local administration has arranged special residential privileges for the frontline medical professionals during the pandemic situation. Rajshahi Parjatan Motel, Postal Academy Rest House and some other rest houses in the city were kept reserved for the purpose.

Some isolation units were established yesterday to contain the coronavirus (COVID- 19) outbreak here.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamidul Haque told BSS that the 60-bed CDM Hospital has been handed over to the command of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) to provide treatment facilities to the corona patients.

Another 20-bed Cancer Hospital and Research Center has also been brought under the RMCH’s command for the same purpose. This hospital will be upgraded to 60-bed one within the near future, DC Haque added.

At present, the 30-bed Rajshahi Infectious Disease Hospital and 10-bed Leprosy Control Centre are being used for treatment of the infected persons as isolation units.
