Benazir Ahmed takes charge as 30th IGP

DHAKA, April 15, 2020 (BSS)- Newly appointed inspector general of police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed took his office at the police headquarters here today.

He took charge as the 30th IGP from outgoing IGP Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary at a simple function at the headquarters this afternoon.

Ahmed was serving as the director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) before his appointment as IGP.

He joined Bangladesh Police Service as assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in 1988 through Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations in 1985.

He served in various capacities in police force with professionalism, dedication and excellence.

On his arrival at the headquarters, Ahmed was given a guard of honor along with floral greetings.

Reception of the new IGP and farewell of the outgoing one were also held.

Ahmed urged policemen to continue their efforts to enforce the government directives and health guidelines to slow the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus that has already claimed 50 lives and over 1,26,000 across the globe.

Additional IGPs, heads of different units and senior officers were present.

Later, Ahmed paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his office at the secretariat here.
