DU donates Tk1.36crore to PM’s relief fund

DHAKA, Apr 15, 2020 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have donated Taka 1.36 crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

Through joining the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinain a videoconference, DU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Akhtaruzzaman today handed over a cheque of around Tk1.36 crore to the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.

President of Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) ASM Maksud Kamal and General Secretary Dr. NizamulHoqueBhuiyan also attended the occasion, said a press release.

The amount consist of two-days’ salary of university teachers, which is around Tk65 lakh, one day salary of the university’s officers and employees around Tk15 lakh and Tk57 lakh that was kept aside for refreshments on the occasion of Bangla New Year celebration for all 18 residential dormitories.

“The money was supposed to be spent for the university students on the occasion of Bangla New Year celebration. But, the students’ representative, (Dhaka University Central Students’ Union) wanted it to be donated to the PM’s fund,” said Akhtaruzzaman.

On April 1, Ducsu requested the university authorities to donate the aforesaid unused expenditure to the prime minister’s relief fund.
