4,834 still in quarantine in Khulna division

KHULNA, April 15, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 4,834 people are now in quarantine after release of 12,782 people out of totally isolated 17,616 persons in the division following coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak began in the country.

“Amid symptoms of community transmission of COVID-19, comprehensive steps have been taken to prevent further spread of the infection in the division,” said Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther.

After 5 persons were detected COVID-19 positive till Tuesday in the division, 842 more people were quarantined anew at home or institutions during the last 24 hours as of 8 am today to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19), she said.

Of them, 791 people were put in home quarantine while 51 others in institutional quarantine as 601 were released from home quarantine in all ten districts of the division, she added.

“The number of people put in quarantine during the period are 336 in Bagerhat, 10 in Satkhira, 107 in Jashore, 36 in Jhenaidah, 153 in Magura, 135 in Narail, 35 in Chuadanga and 30 in Meherpur,” she continued.

“Till Tuesday, a total of 5 people — one in Khulna, one in Jashore, one in Narail, one in Bagerhat and one in Chuadanga districts — have been tested COVID-19 positive in the division,” she went on saying.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said more steps are being taken in wake of changing situation for enhancing capacity of providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Subash Chandra Saha said efforts have been intensified further to ensure physical distancing to prevent community transmission of the lethal virus.

“We have strengthened monitoring systems on distribution of food among the jobless and needy people as well as whether the provision of physical distancing is being maintained,” he added.
