848 more people sent to quarantine in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, April 14, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 848 new more people have been
kept in home and institutional quarantine in all eight districts under
Rajshahi division in the past 24 hours till 8 am today as part of the present
continuous and relentless efforts of bringing all the suspected people under
quarantine.

With this, the number of total quarantined people stood to 2,981 at present,
said Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya, Divisional Director of Health, adding a total
of 10,235 people had, so far, been sent to quarantine since March 10 to
prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 7,254 have, so far, been released as they were given clearance
certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the
division.

Among the new ones, 100 have been kept at home quarantine in Rajshahi, 170
in Chapainawabganj, 157 in Naogaon, 68 in Joypurhat, 49 in Bogura, 237 in
Sirajgonj and 67 in Pabna districts.

Dr Gopendra Nath said a total of 39 patients are undergoing treatment in
isolation units at present and 23 others were released.

He added that an integrated measure has been continuing to bring all
suspected people including the overseas returnees and other possible
coronavirus infected under home quarantine to curb the virus spread.

He also said all-out efforts have been adopted to follow the health related
guidelines like staying at home, social distancing and washing hands with soap
repeatedly.

Meanwhile, all the authorities concerned are working relentlessly to handle
the adverse situation being caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the region.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hummayun Kabir said the armed
forces and all other law-enforcers are discouraging people from coming out of
homes besides maintaining social distancing and wearing facemasks during the
present troubled time.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque said 1,187 people have, so
far, been fined a total of around Taka 30.19 lakh on charges of their
involvement in violating laws related to the present restrictions in the
district.

Executive Magistrates conducted 687 mobile courts and found the people
guilty of the charges as the people were found involved in violating the
relevant laws at different areas, he added.

“All-out measures have been adopted to ensure social distancing, restricting
gatherings and distributing food among the hand-to-mouth families,” said
Humayun Kabir Khandaker, Commissioner of Rajshahi Division, here today.

He added 12,084 personal protective equipment (PPEs) have already been
distributed to protect the frontline medical professionals from being infected
with the virus. Around another 13,654 PPEs are in stock at present. Apart from
this, 17,669 face masks were distributed and another 10,429 remained
stockpiled at present.

A total of 712 doctors and 1,334 nurses are working in 172 public and
private hospitals in the division. Around 1,876 beds among total 4,149 ones
were already prepared for treatment of the possible COVID-19 infected patients
to face any emergency situation.

Besides, there are arrangements of 880 beds in isolation units here and 17
ambulances for the purpose of transporting the infected patients for emergency
treatment.

Humayun Kabir said 5,300.65 tonnes of rice were distributed among 5,01,449
families so far while over Taka 1.91 crore cash among 2,38,023 families in the
division. Another 2,484.60 more tonnes of rice and around Taka 1.35 crore in
cash are in stock for distribution.
