Samples of 45 more COVID-19 suspects tested in Khulna

KHULNA, April 14, 2020 (BSS) – Samples of 45 more suspected coronavirus infected patients were tested at the COVID-19 Laboratory of Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) here yesterday as two cases found positive.

“Out of the totally tested 45 samples yesterday, two cases detected positive,” said Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed.

With this, the number of COVID-19 infected patients stood at 3 in the division, he said, adding “Of which, one positive was found in Khulna, one in Narail and one in Jashore districts”.

Head of the Department of Microbiology of KMCH and Focal Point of COVID-19 Molecular Laboratory Dr. Shahnaz Parvin said a total of 215 collected samples have so far been tested since April 7 at the laboratory.

She said samples of suspected COVID-19 patients are being collected from all districts of Khulna division. “Of the collected samples, 45 were tested on Monday, 43 on Sunday, 52 on Saturday and Friday, 39 on Thursday, 24 on Wednesday and 12 on Tuesday at the laboratory,” she added.

“We are smoothly testing samples of suspected COVID-19 infected patients with assistance of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) at the COVID-19 Laboratory installed at the Department of Microbiology of KMCH,” she said.

After conducting tests of collected samples of suspected COVID-19 infected patients at the COVID-19 Laboratory, the results are being sent to the IEDCR at Dhaka every day.

“The civil surgeons, superintendents of KMCH and Surveillance Immunization Medical Officers of the World Health Organisation are strictly monitoring and supervising the sample collection process at the grassroots levels,” she said.##
