Mobile court fines 2 hoarders Tk 60,000 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 14, 2020 (BSS) – A mobile court fined two hoarders Taka 60,000 for stockpiling daily essentials of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) from Shothibari Bazaar in Mithapukur upazila of the district last night.

“An operational team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) arrested the hoarders with stockpiled 900 kg of sugar and 228 litres of soya-bean oil from their shops at the Bazaar,” a RAB-13 press release said.

The government allocated the seized sugar and edible oil for sale at fair prices to the common people through the TCB under the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak situation.

The arrested persons were identified as Badiuzzaman Patu of village Kanthali and Nawab Ali of village Durgapur in Mithapukur upazila of the district.

In sudden raids, the elite force seized 900 kg of stockpiled sugar and 205 litres of soya-bean oil from the shop of Badiuzzaman and 23 litres of soya-bean oil from the shop of Nawab and arrested them from the spots.

Later, the arrested persons were produced before the mobile court of executive magistrate Md. Noor-E-Alam Siddique.

The mobile court fined Badiuzzaman Taka 50,000 and Nawab Ali Taka 10,000 for illegally hoarding the daily essentials of TCB allocated for sale at fair prices.

The seized daily essentials were handed over to the Mithapukur upazila administration for distribution among the distressed, jobless and needy people amid the present COVID-19 situation.
