PM asks people to keep own areas protected from COVID-19

DHAKA, April 12, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged all to keep protected their respective areas and not to allow anybody to enter from outside to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“We’re seeing that the people are being infected by the lethal disease when they contract with the people of other areas. To check this, keep your areas well-protected for at least a few days,” she said.

The prime minister said this while interacting through a videoconference from her official residence Ganabhaban here with the public representatives and officials of 16 districts under Khulna and Barishal divisions on the current coronavirus situation.

Sheikh Hasina simultaneously called upon the people not to travel from one place to another unnecessarily and obey the health codes and directives of the government to save themselves from the transmission of the Covid-19.

“We want you to remain healthy and well-protected. So, you shouldn’t move from one place to other in your own interest as well others’ … if you need to go to the houses of your relatives, you can visit them later,” she said.

The premier went on saying: “Please at least stop this (movement) now and cooperate with us so that we can overcome this situation.”

“You’ve responsibility for yourselves and similarly you’ve also responsibilities for others … everybody will have to keep this in mind,” she added.

Sheikh Hasina continued: “Please follow properly the instructions given by us, the health ministry and being broadcast by television and radio … you’ll stay safe and also keep well others, if you obey the directives properly,” she said.

Mentioning that such disasters appear sometimes in the world, the prime minister said it will have to face with courage.

The premier said the Bangalee nation triumphed the Liberation War in 1971 by responding to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“We’re a victorious nation and we’ve firm belief that we’ll be able to save the country and the people by tackling this situation Insha Allah,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, said: “It’s very regrettable that some people died of the deadly disease (in the country) and some leaders of our party also passed away due to it.”

In this connection, she prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved families.
