DHAKA, April 10, 2020 (BSS) – Readymade garment (RMG) factories would remain closed until April 25 in line with extended nationwide general holidays to slow the spread of the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the country.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) today in a joint statement announced the decision immediately after the government’s move of extending the general holidays for the fourth time.

“If any factory office remains open to distribute wages and other payments during this period, the authorities will have to inform the respective trade bodies and industrial police about it,” said the statement.

On March 23, the government announced a 10-day public holiday in the first phase that began from March 26 and subsequently holdiay has been extended to April 25 in the latest move today to slow the spread of the deadly virus in the country.
