238 more people sent to quarantine in Rajshahi division
RAJSHAHI, April 10, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 238 new more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine in all eight districts under Rajshahi division in the past 24 hours till 8 am today.
With this, the number of total quarantined people rose to 897 at present.
Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said a total of 7,736 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Of them, 6,816 have, so far, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
Among the new ones, five have been kept at home quarantine in Rajshahi, 51 in Chapainawabganj, 26 in Naogaon, one in Natore, 13 in Joypurhat, ten in Bogura, 78 in Sirajgonj and 54 in Pabna districts.
Dr Gopendra Nath said a total of 32 patients are undergoing treatment in isolation units at present and 21 others were released.
He added that an integrated measure has been continuing to bring all the overseas returnees and other possible coronavirus infected suspects under home quarantine to curb the virus spread.
He also said all-out efforts have been adopted to follow the health related guidelines like staying at home, social distancing and washing hands with soap repeatedly.
Meanwhile, the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has become ready to tackle any adverse and emergency situation caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the region.
RMCH Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous said adequate equipment and devices reached here for the doctors and paramedics to stay safe from the virus infection.
“We have 4,400 personal protective equipment (PPE), 2,275 goggles, 20,000 masks, 25,000 caps and 25,000 gloves at present,” he said, adding the doctors and nurses in every ward were provided with security wares and gears.
Dr Ferdous said the RMCH’s 30 No Ward is being prepared for treatment of the coronavirus patients, adding that around 200 patients can be given treatment in the ward at a time.
Besides, there are some additional advantages like 16 intensive care units (ICUs) and eight HDU beds in the ward which will be very much helpful to cope with any emergency situation.
On the other hand, the government extended 73,804 hand-to-mouth families with foodstuffs and money in the district to overcome their financial hardships caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque said the district administration has distributed 655.23 tonnes of rice and Taka 14.20 lakh in cash for the purpose.
“We have also stock of 524.30 tonnes more rice and Taka 26.75 lakh in cash for distribution,” he said adding the low-income villagers are also getting support from local government funds.
He also said some 953 people were fined a total of around Taka 24.10 lakh on charges of their involvement in violating laws related to the restrictions caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the district till yesterday since April 4 last.
Mobile courts led by the respective executive magistrates found the people guilty of the charges as the people were found involved in violating the relevant laws at different areas, added Hamidul Haque.
