3,217 released from quarantine in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 9, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 3,217 migrants have been released so far out of total 3,906 put on home or institutional quarantine to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Rangpur division.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said 172 people have been quarantined anew during the last 24 hours in the division against the number of 213 quarantined people on Wednesday.

“In last 24 hours, 32 of Rangpur, 31 of Panchagarh, 10 of Nilphamari, none of Lalmonirhat, 40 of Kurigram, 21 of Thakurgaon, 19 of Dinajpur and Gaibandha districts each have been quarantined,” he said.

A total of 689 people are remaining in quarantine today against 554 people yesterday as the number increased following detection of two more COVID-19 positive patients in the last two days raising the number of COVID-19 positive patients to eight in the division.

Besides, 25 suspected coronavirus patients were admitted to the isolation units of different hospitals in Rangpur division since the beginning, and of them, 10 released so far and 13 are undergoing treatments at the isolation units.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies are assisting the civil administration putting maximum efforts on maintaining social distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in Rangpur division.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) continues providing assistance to smoothly continue testing of collected samples of suspected coronavirus patients at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMC).

“Besides, different organisations are distributing masks, leaflets, spraying disinfectants on the streets and public places, washing hands with shops and cleanliness campaigns to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 across the division,” he added.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies have further enhanced efforts in ensuring social distancing to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

“We have put highest importance to ensure social distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 along with providing food to the jobless, needy, distressed, backward and ethnic minority community people amid the coronavirus situation,” he added.

The COVID-19 situation is still under control and the Armed Forces, district, health, police and upazila administrations, local government bodies and other organisations are working to ensure social distancing in Rangpur division.
