213 home-quarantined anew in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 8, 2020 (BSS) – Amid ongoing inclusive efforts to ensure social distancing, 213 more people have been home-quarantined in the last 24 hours in Rangpur division to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Health officials said all 150 staff of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex (KUHC) in Nilphamari have been put on home-quarantine since Tuesday after one of its physicians was tested COVID-19 positive.

The authorities concerned have locked down the KUHC where the COVID-19 positive tested physician is undergoing treatment now at the isolation unit.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said a total of 213 people, including 150 staff of KUHC, have been quarantined at home in the last 24 hours.

Among the 213 people, three have been home-quarantined during the period in Rangpur, 150 in Nilphamari, none in Panchagarh and Lalmonirhat, 40 in Kurigram, six in Thakurgaon, two in Dinajpur and 12 in Gaibandha districts in the division.

“Since March 10 last, a total of 3,734 people were put on home or institutional quarantines, and of them, 3,180 released after expiry of their 14-day quarantine till today in Rangpur division,” he said.

He said 12 suspected coronavirus patients were admitted to the isolation units of different hospitals in Rangpur division since the beginning, and of them, six released so far.

“Besides, seven people of Rangpur division have been tested COVID-19 positive so far and six of them are undergoing treatments at the isolation units,” Dr. Siddiqui said, adding that the overall COVID-19 situations still remains under control.

Talking to BSS, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said the capacity of providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients, if their number increases in the future, is being enhanced across Rangpur division.

“Along with the prevailing health service facilities in the government hospitals, using the private sector hospitals having better facilities as Corona Units is in the offing for providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients, if necessary,” he added.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Zakir Hossain said the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies, different political parties, voluntary organisations and public representatives are conducting hectic campaigns to prevent COVID-19 spread.

“Maximum importance has been put on ensuring social distancing, restricting gathering of people, providing treatments to COVID-19 patients and food to jobless and needy people both in urban and rural areas across Rangpur division,” he said.

Following massive awareness raising activities being conducted by the Armed Forces and all concerned, the people are becoming more inspired in remaining at home and abiding by health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.

“The awareness raising activities include publicity by using loudspeakers and hand-loudspeakers, distribution of leaflets, masks, spraying antibiotics, hand-washing and cleanliness campaign across the division,” he added.
