Authorities step up measures to fight coronavirus in Khulna

KHULNA, April 07, 2020 (BSS) – The armed forces and other law-enforcement agencies have stepped up their vigilance activities on non-essential movements and public gatherings to stem the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the region.

The armed forces are seen working relentlessly in aid of the civil administration to ensure maintaining social distancing and following ‘stay at home’ directives by the people to slow outbreak of the deadly novel COVID-19 in the division.

Meanwhile, a total of 10,098 expatriates have been released, so far, from home quarantine out of the total 13,107 to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Assistant Director (Health) in Khulna Dr. Ferdousi Akther said a total of 10,098 expatriates have been released from home-quarantine, 40 from institutional quarantine and 19 others from isolation unit till 8am today as they showed no coronavirus symptoms.

Meanwhile, only 130 expatriates were kept in home-quarantine in last 24 hours.

Of them, nine were kept in home quarantine in Khulna, 30 in Bagerhat, 46 in Satkhira, 31 in Jashore, 12 in Jhenaidah, one in Narail and one in Kustia districts.

With them, a total of 13,107 expatriates were quarantined at homes so far in the division and 306 were released in the last 24 hours as they showed no symptoms of coronavirus after their stay in home-quarantine for 14 days, Dr. Ferdousi said.

On the other hand, district administrations in Khulna division have expedited their activities for bringing all the hand-to-mouth families under food support programme.
