Rice sale at 10tk to Gaibandha poor people continues

GAIBANDHA, April 07, 2020 (BSS) – The sale of rice at TK 10 per kg to 1,15,828 vulnerable families of the district has been continuing under government’s food friendly programme.

Department of Food is implementing the government programme meant for the selected vulnerable families in all the seven upazilas of the district through 194 dealers, said an official here today.

Each of the card holders receives 30-kg of rice at TK 300 per month, he said.

The beneficiaries’ get rice TK 10 per KG for five months for March, April, September, October and November this year, he added.

Earlier, deputy commissioner Abdul Matin formally inaugurated the food friendly programme for the vulnerable families in Ballamjhar area under Sadar upazila of the district last month as the chief guest.

To see the rice sale activity for himself, district food controller M. Zahirul Islam often visits the shops of the dealers and asks them to sell rice to the poor people properly.

While talking to the BSS, Islam said poor families run by women particularly widows, divorced or abandoned would be given priority to give rice at TK 10 according to the guideline.

Besides, flour is also being sold to the poor at TK 18 per kg under the Open Market Sale programme by the food department.
