Railway to run 7 pairs of special trains during Eid holidays

DHAKA, August 17, 2017 (BSS) – Bangladesh Railway (BR) will operate seven pairs of special trains on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha to carry the Eid passengers on different routes from August 29 to September 9.

“We will also operate two special trains including Solakia Special-1 and Solakia Special-2 on the Eid day on Bhairab-Kishoreganj and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj routes to facilitate the devout Muslims to join the Sholakia Eid prayers,” Railways Minister M Muzibul Hoque told a press briefing at his ministry’s conference room today.

The minister said Dewanganj Special train will ply on Dhaka-Dewanganj-Dhaka route from August 29 before the Eid and from September 3 to 9 after the Eid, while Chandpur Special-1 and Chandpur Special-2 will ply on Chittagong-Chandpur-Chittagong route during the days.

Rajshahi Special train will run on Rajshahi-Dhaka-Rajshahi section, while the Parbatipur Special train is scheduled to operate on Parbatipur-Dhaka-Parbatipur route from August 29 to September 1 and September 3 to 9 after the Eid. The minister also said that the railways ministry has suspended day-off for the intercity train services, which would run especially on its weekly holiday from August 28 up to the penultimate day of the Eid.

“This year 1,296 coaches including meter gauge (MG) and broad gauge (BG) would carry homebound passengers on the occasion of the Eid, above last year’s 1,222, while BR would add 229 locomotives for the Eid passengers,” Hoque added.

Secretary of the Railways Ministry Mofazzol Hossain was also present.
